Devising a Powerful Drama Performance on Female Oppression through the Ages

During my A-levels, I chose Drama as one of my four options. For our Year 12 devising piece, I collaborated with three other talented girls and we decided to base our play on the theme of female oppression throughout the ages. Our performance depicted the sexism faced by women from the 17th century until present day, highlighting the struggles and challenges that women have faced throughout history.

In order to create an impactful performance, we drew inspiration from various sources, including the thought-provoking Amazon Prime show "The Handmaid's Tale", which explores a world where women's rights have been completely stripped away. We also researched the historical context of witches being burned alive in the 17th century, which allowed us to incorporate this theme into our performance.

Our hard work and dedication to this project paid off as we were able to create a powerful and meaningful performance. I am extremely proud of the end result and the message we conveyed through our piece.
